The OBSCURE Files
It's Spooky Season, and this Halloween marks exactly one year since I launched OBSCURE on Kickstarter. Since then, I've sold quite a few copies and even won an Ennie award! To celebrate, I hereby invite you to join my Jam! 💀
Write an adventure for 🔴 OBSCURE and get it published in the first volume of the official annual 3rd Party zine The OBSCURE Files!
Here's what to do
- Write a scenario, preferably designed for a one-shot.
- Keep it to 2-8 spreads.
- The format is 20x20 cm with 3mm bleed.
- Send the finished scenario to sunzenaut@gmail.com before HALLOWEEN [October 31]
- Do your own art and layout if you wish, but please follow the DESIGN PRIMER if you do.
Don't do art and/or layout? Don't worry. As long as you format the text so it's nice and comprehensible, I will do the layout for you.
What should the scenario include?
- A “Why are you here” section
- A short intro
- A map with numbered areas/rooms
- Descriptions and encounters as bullet points (numbered corresponding to the map)
- Clues and Found Footage
- Description and stats on the main entity/enemy/creature or whatever the players are up against
- A “THE TRUTH” section
- A "THE ENDGAME” section
Look at the setup of the scenarios in the corebook for inspiration, and be sure to check out the Design Primer.
What will get published?
I will look at all the submitted scenarios and choose which ones will be published. Hopefully all of them🙂
The OBSCURE Files will go on Kickstarter to crowdfund a nice physical zine. After the campaign, the zine will be available to the public on Sunzenaut.com.
Compensation / prices
If your scenario gets published you will receive
- 100 USD (50 USD if you only made plain text without art/layout)
- A physical edition of the OBSCURE core book
- 3 copies of the physical version of The OBSCURE Files

By submitting, you agree to grant Tommy Sunzenauer (Sunzenaut Games) all rights to crowdfund, publish and sell your submission, but only as part of The OBSCURE Files vol. 1. You still own your own work and are free to sell/distribute it on other platforms however you want. You also give permission to have your submission edited and added art/layout if needed. You will be clearly credited in the publication under the name you choose. All surplus from crowdfunding and sales goes to Sunzenaut Games as publisher/ project manager / host of the project.
